United For Wildlife Sea Cargo Report

SİRKÜLER NO: 6.12 / 520-391 = 05/07/2021

Üyesi bulunduğumuz FONASBA' dan 05.07.2021 tarihinde almış olduğumuz e- posta mesajı aşağıdaki gibidir.

Dear All,

As you will recall, FONASBA is a member of the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce and as such, we regularly receive updates on illicit activities relating to the illegal wildlife trade and where these highlight actions in FONASBA member countries, we will pass the alerts on to the associations concerned. Another action of the Transport Taskforce is to raise awareness of how the illegal wildlife trade is carried out across transport modes. Clearly seaborne containers provide a very useful resource for such activity and UfW have just released a guidance document entitled “Red Flag Indicators for Wildlife and Timber Trafficking in Containerized Sea Cargo”, which may prove interesting for your members. Whilst some of the information many be self-evident, the sections on the routings for illicit cargoes are often surprising and involve quite a few FONASBA member countries that ordinarily would not consider themselves to be involved in this trade. The information on how to identify illicit shipments is also very informative.

The document runs to nearly 10 mB in size so has not been attached as it may exceed the capacity of some email systems or of individual inboxes. We have therefore made it available through our Dropbox account, the link is as follows: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f8sur1zsbxoktlt/20210629_SEA_CARGO_report.pdf?dl=0. We would recommend you pass this link on to your members for their information and encourage them to download the guidelines.
